Time Stretching in Pro Tools

Any audio track can be time stretched ('elastic audio'-ed) in Pro Tools - here's how to do it
1) On the audio track you want to stretch, click on the ELASTIC AUDIO icon (it looks like this)




3) The 4 main options (Polyphonic, etc) choose the algorithm PT will use to mess with your audio; they are farily self-explanatory.
4) Choose one of the modes - in this case, I'll choose Rhythmic - as you can see, the track changes a bit:

5) To start stretching and compressing the audio using the algorithm you previously selected, click on the VIEW button and choose WARP

6) Now instead of seeing just the waveform, you'll also see the time stretching stuff:

7) Move your cursor to the bottom of the waveform, and click on one of the vertical lines; you'll see it become darker, and you'll also see a little arrow show up:

8) Now this WARP MARKER is moveable! Click and drag on it to change where that sound will happen! Click on other lines to activate the warp markers - try moving them around!

9) The waveform that you see will always reflect what you will actually hear! By default PT will guess where the TRANSIENTS in the original audio are - if you want to TELL PT where they are, click on the VIEW button and instead of choosing WARP, choose ANALYSIS

10) Now if you double-click in the lower half of the region, you can create warp markers that can be moved in WARP view

After you've done your editing/warping/etc, once you go back to WAVEFORM view, it will appear just like any other audio in your PT session!

Important Information About Pro Tools LE 6.4 Plug-In Updates

Except where noted, plug-ins on this page are included on the Pro Tools LE 6.4 Update CDs, and the Pro Tools LE 6.4 and LE CDs included with upgrades and new purchases.

In order to greatly reduce the size of the web downloads, these optional plug-ins are NOT INCLUDED with the Pro Tools LE 6.4 downloads. All Digidesign and Digi-distributed plug-ins must be updated in order to work with Pro Tools LE 6.4.

After running the Pro Tools 6.4 LE web update, you must download updates for any of these plug-ins that you own and install them after installing Pro Tools BEFORE launching Pro Tools. Otherwise an error and possible crash will occur on Pro Tools launch.

Pro Tools LE 6.4 Download & Information

System Compatibility:

  • These plug-ins will work on systems with Pro Tools LE 6.0 through 6.4 installed

Installation:

  • Download the correct plug-in for your iLok authorization
  • Each download is a self-contained installer

Documentation:

The update for DigiTranslator owners is installed during Pro Tools installation, either from the Pro Tools 6.4 Web Installer or the Pro Tools 6.4 CD:

  1. Double-click on the 'Install Pro Tools' or 'Install Pro Tools Web' application
  2. Put a check mark in the box next to 'DigiTranslator'
  3. Follow the prompts in installer application

MP3 Option

MP3 Option for Pro Tools LE 6.4

The update for MP3 Option owners is installed during Pro Tools installation, either from the Pro Tools LE 6.4 Web Installer or the Pro Tools 6.4 CD:

  1. Double-click on the 'Install Pro Tools LE' application
  2. Put a check mark in the box next to 'Update MP3 Codec' on Windows, or 'MP3 Codec 1.3 Update' on Mac
  3. Follow the prompts in the installer application

The next time in Pro Tools that you select a portion of audio in a session and choose to bounce to disk and export as MP3 audio, you will be prompted for your authorization code from your MP3 Option receipt from the DigiStore. (if you have previously authorized MP3 Option on your hard drive, you may not be prompted to re-authorize)

If you run into installation problems, you may have to delete ALL files from your Codecs/MP3 folder, then run the installer again. The MP3demo.dll file and the MP3.dll file cannot both be in the Codecs/MP3 folder. MP3 Option is available for purchase from the DigiStore. If you do not own MP3 Option, you can try the 30 day demo version available from the Pro Tools installer.

Legacy MIDI Controllers for Pro Tools 6.4

The following control surfaces were not tested with Pro Tools LE 6.4, and therefore are not officially supported. The Pro Tools LE version 6.4 CDs contain an 'unsupported' folder with the following control surface personality files:
