Clean Up Imovie Library
I deleted some movie files from a project. But when I did that, my iMovie Library actually went up from 336GB to 356GB! What am I doing wrong?
Background: I probably set up the whole project wrong from the start. I began Project #1 with eight (8) years of select movie files. (yup) From that, I produced a 2012 family video. Then I copied just the 2013 movie files from Project #1 to Project #2, and produced a 2013 family video, and so on. (I’m not very patient, and used to use FCP 6, so I just blasted into iMovie without thinking how to manage storage & projects. My bad.) Thanks for any help on how to properly delete movie files I no longer need.

Clear Imovie Library
IMovie '11: Copy or move video from your Event Library to an external hard disk. To copy or move Events to another hard disk: Connect a compatible external hard disk drive to your computer. In iMovie, click the Hard Disk button to see all available hard disks, which are listed in your Event Library.

Clean Out Imovie Library
From what is in /System/Library/User Template/Library, here is what /Library contains when you create a brand new user. Almost all entries are empty directories. Therefore, you can safely delete everything in /Library. Of course you'll lose all preferences you may have set, etc. Deleting the Render files seemed to do the most good; I’m back to 195GB for the iMovie Library. I also deleted all of my 2013 movie files directly from the iMovie Library instead of just the Project file. That helped a little. I think my next step should be to just transfer the entire iMovie Library to an external hard drive.
